Simon Sothras has been in the wine and beer industry ever since his grandfather put him to work in the vineyards at just seven years old. As a teenager he began working in his family winery, assisting with the harvest. As the family expanded into micro brewing, Simon fell in love with the fermentation process and decided to dedicate his life to the craft.
While averaging two batches of homebrew per week, Simon heard that the Ninkasi Brewing Company was hiring a cellar rat, and he seized the opportunity to get his first brewery job. He moved through the ranks quickly, and was promoted to assistant brewer at age twenty, and still found time to acquire a Bachelor’s Of Science degree from the University Of Oregon.
In the eight years he worked for Ninkasi, their business multiplied several times over.
Simon’s next step was to set out on his own, forming Strange Brew Brewing Consulting. He started small, consulting with breweries around the United States and before long he was working in the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, and South America. By thirty years of age, he had brewed in 56 countries, visited 75 countries. Simon has now join the Maverick team at Unbranded Brewing Company.
