The Original
MAVERICKS
There are many imitators, but only one original. If you look up the word “maverick,” you might be surprised to find that it means “an unbranded range animal.” This is because Samuel Maverick, the great-great-great-great grandfather of our founder, did not brand his cattle.

When president Jimmy Carter signed the bill that allowed Americans to make beer in their own homes, he inspired an entire generation of independent brewers to start the craft beer revolution. Bucking the trends of the day, these brewers decided to make beer that was much more flavorful and experimental than the mass-produced commercial products available at the time. In their defiance of market trends, these brewers established themselves as mavericks of the beer world — people who sought to challenge the status quo by offering a high quality, independently made product. Thus, craft breweries are maverick breweries. Craft beer is maverick beer. We seek to bolster this iconoclasm by continually pushing the boundaries of maverick beer in three ways: (1) through the use of unique, non-traditional, high-quality ingredients; (2) by openly defying the zeitgeist of contemporary BJCP beer classifications; and (3) by demonstrating that beer has several unique qualities for food pairing that make it superior to other, more traditional beverages.
